FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Custom Pet Painting FAQ

What’s the difference between the 7/8” depth and 1.5” depth canvas edge options?
7/8” depth edge (exact measurements can vary from 5/8” to 7/8”) is more traditional, low profile, and often framed in a ready-made or custom frame. 1.5” depth edge is more modern, thicker, and more common with my style. The 1.5” depth can be framed in custom deep frames (often in “floater” frames) or more commonly left unframed. I will paint the image wrapping around the edges if applicable on most 1.5” edge orders.

Do you paint from photo or from life?
While I LOVE painting from life, for pet portraits a photo of the pet not wiggling works best!

Does the photo need to be just of the pet’s face?
Most customers will send their photos as-is and I will crop to the proper dimensions. My typical pet portraits are close up of the face, often with ears painted to the edge. If you prefer full body, contact me for a quote.

How many photos should I send?
I only need one good quality photo. But if you are unsure of which is the best one, you are welcome to send more. Photos can be emailed to amyeichlerart@gmail.com after you order.

If I want to order a painting of multiple pets, do I need to send a photo of them together?
If you’ve managed to capture the perfect photo of them together, that’s great! Most can’t and send separate photos of their pets that I will photoshop together for approval. Be sure that all the photos are taken from similar angles and lighting.

Do you include collars, tags, clothing, and/or harness?
I ignore any additional items in the photo and do not paint collars, tags, clothing, or harnesses. But I’m happy to include if this is meaningful to you. If you would like these included, please make note of this in your order.

How long will it take to receive my order?
Typical turnaround time to fit in new orders varies between 2-8 weeks. During peak times around major gift-giving holidays (Valentine’s Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Christmas) orders will be delivered in the week prior unless otherwise requested. Order early to avoid closures. Orders for Valentine’s Day close 1 month prior. Orders for Christmas close around October 1 (when full).

Other Custom Painting FAQ

Do you paint people?
Of course! I painted humans for 20 years before starting to paint animals. I specialize in close-up portraits, family portraits, or figure paintings. Pricing varies by size, content, and detail. Contact me for a quote!

Do you paint other things?
It doesn’t hurt to ask! While I prefer things with eyes and volume, I occasionally take on other custom projects.

My home decor is all neutral, can you use more muted and natural colors?
I love neutral decor! However, my paintings are known for their color and will be a pop of color in your space. While I can make some colors more “natural”, I don’t use any brown or tan paint and only use black if necessary in limited quantities as accents in the features. The colors that I paint are the colors that I “see” in the image, not arbitrary. You can get an idea of what the color scheme will be by looking at my previous work. I typically use the same color palette for all my paintings.

Will my painting come with a hanging wire on the back?

All canvases 16”x16” and larger with 1.5” deep edges will be wired. If you’d like a smaller canvas wired, or don’t plan to frame your 7/8” deep order, please let me know.

Giclée / Print FAQ

What is a giclée?
A giclée is a high quality art reproduction of my original painting. The image is printed on artist grade canvas with archival ink, wrapped with 1.25”-1.5” deep edges, and comes ready to hang. They are constructed with puncture resistant, solid faced canvas. All sizes are hand embellished, signed, and varnished by me (Amy) unless otherwise noted.

Do you offer paper prints?

No, at the moment I only personally sell canvas reproductions of my art and seasonally, some ornaments. If you’d like to order a paper print or merchandise, message me and I’ll point you in the right direction.
